Subutex / Suboxone?
Question by cna1970: Subutex / Suboxone?
I recently read that Subutex/Suboxone can be perscribed by any Doctor for the treatment of cronic pain…. if it is perscribed for pain then it is concidered “off label” reason and the Doctor does not need that special DATA 2000 number they would need in order to perscribe it for “opiate addiction”……… is this really true?
I’ve been taking pain meds for a few years and do have documented pain issues and need my pain controlled but I would like to take a break from the Oxycontin/Percocets for a few months to give my body a break and I heard that Subutex/Suboxone could help me avoid withdrawls and also help with pain.
Which one is better Subutex or Suboxone?
I will go back on my origianl meds after awhile but maybe I can start over with low doses again after my body breathes. Any ideas?
I don’t abuse my current meds… I just want a break.
Is it true that my primary write a script for Subutex/Suboxone that says “1 tab 2xday for cronic pain”? even without a special # ?

I take it you live in the USA. Open my avatar and see my answer to the question raised on Subutex. Both drugs are synthetic opiates used for heroin addicts. I am in the UK

I can defiantly understand wanting to get off the Oxys! I asked my Dr. to take me off of them after getting up to 120 mgs. 2 xs per day over a period of 6 years. I still needed pain control for my spine issues and switched to a different opioid, This is something you can Email about if you want to know what I did Instead of Oxys. As for Suboxone,(subx.) It Is an Opioid & Yes they have been used as pain control for very few # of patients who have opioid abuse issues ,But I would stay away from subox at all costs! For #1 it is NOT going to give the level pain relief you are used to getting from the Oxys and once you go on subox it is all but impossible to get any other type of pain meds. #2 Subox. should only be used by those who want to get off of opioids permanently ,when you start the Subox. you will be “Tagged as a Junkie” and for someone with chronic pain you should know that this is a label we have to face when trying to get help for our pain. There are much better alternatives to Oxys than Subox.! Perdue frederick the drug co. that makes Oxy Contin was fined $ 430 Million by the Gov after 2 of there Drug Reps , plead guilty to FELONY charges of mis representing and misleading Dr.s as to the addictive-ness of the drug. They admitted to the court that they were trained by the Co. to mislead Drs into thinking that Oxy Contin was not as addictive as other opioid pain killers and that there patients could use it for Chronic pain, They also told Dr’s that there could prescribe Oxy Contin (a 12 hr drug) 3 Xs per day when the FDA had only approved it for 2Xs per day, Knowing all the while that Patients would become hard core addicted and keep coming back for more.
