No sugar as in glucose is created through photosynthesis. It is made of 6carbons12hydrogens6oxygens. (C6H12O6). Photosynthesis involves the oxidation of water or H2O and takes place in two photosystems. It uses photons from the sunlight to excite chlorophyll in the thylakoids of the chloroplasts in plants. The electrons get turned into ATP through the photosystems. There are two kinds of reactions: light dependent, as light independent.
Allright, that was tmi, but sugar is NOT an element. It is a molecular compound.

Ahh, my bad. I need more sleep. I was thinking element. Actually anything can be a substance. Substance can just mean an unknown chemical. (“substance abuse” means drug abuse). So really your asking if sugar can be pure and it can be pure but so could any other substance if purified. So, you can have pure cocaine…
