Cocaine-Induced Psychosis Permanent Effects?
Question by Fraggle: Cocaine-induced psychosis Permanent effects?
Someone close to me has been doing cocaine in large quantities all day every day for as far as I know at least 8 months. Others have said years but was not this bad before. I have noticed very crazy things like hearing things that were not said and thinking they saw situations that have not happened. This person has now created this big situation that is “fact” to them, but there is no evidence. Situations like telling me that person(A) has done terrible things to them but it was on a day when I was with them all day long. When asked to produce kind of evidence or something they play a voicemail that is between me and them and doesn’t even involve the other person. That person feels like it is actually evidence. Also in lower doses there was a complete inability to recognize logic, but seemed to come off as just stupidity. Just throwing that in there… not sure why.
So my question is this. If that person stops using cocaine in such large quantity or stops completely do they still think those situations happened? Do they have to go back an rethink the situation, does it just instantly become clear, or do only certain things return? Basically I have known this person for a long time and they do not act this way. I know that if they stopped and were able to see everything clearly they would say thank you. I used to not think coke was that bad. I figured people just blew money and felt good for a while. I had no idea that it actually affects people this way and this is the second person. Maybe it is just some new bad coke out there.. I don’t know. So will any of the paranoid delusions remain after they stop? I know people realize a lot of their mistakes when they stop, but am asking if there will be any delusions that will remain and whether it will go away instant or if they have to look at the entire situation again.
I would love a response from a former user with experience with delusions.

I don’t have former experience, but I knew someone like this. They would make up stories they beloved to be true, but we’re completely bogus. They eventually went to rehab and got cleaned up. A couple months afterwards I asked about these stories, and they had no idea what I was talking about. So yes, I’m assuming that if they are to stop, they would forget all about these stories. But there is also the chance that they have messed there mind up so much that they can’t go back to normal.
